Hamden, Conn. –Sophomore Raechel Stimson (Cameron Park, Calif.) helped lead the Quinnipiac women's rugby team to a 52-0 victory over Marist at the QU Rugby Field. Stimson carried the team with three tries and added 15 points to the Quinnipiac score. Quinnipiac remains unscathed on the year as it improves to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the Tri-State Conference, while Marist drops to 2-2 on the year. Through five games, Quinnipiac has outscored its opponent, 298-19, as they continue their best start in program history.
Seniors Nancy Dunn (Moscow, Pa.) and Colleen Doherty (Ashburnham, Mass.) each contributed a try a piece. Sophomore Shannon Durkin (Oakland, Calif.) and freshman Natalie Kosko (Sebastian, Fla.) combined for three tries for the Bobcats in their second home game. Doherty and Dunn also registered assists for the Bobcats.
Quinnipiac was able to take charge in the first half of play, maneuvering across the field into Marist's territory ending the first half 40-0. As the second half of play resumed, the Foxes were able to balance their line, defending the Bobcats and holding Quinnipiac to only 12 point in the second half.
Veteran fullback Krystin Orrico (Cranford, N.J.) went 6-for-8 in conversion points to pad their margin of victory. Orrico is now 21-for-37 on the year for conversions.
The Bobcats resume their season against Tri-State Conference opponent Stony Brook on Sunday, Oct. 7, at Stony Brook Campus Recreation Field in Stony Brook, N.Y. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. The Seawolves are 1-2 in conference play and the Bobcats are looking to keep their unbeaten streak from being tarnished.
