Bobcats Face Pride
The Quinnipiac women's rugby team (2-4) (2-2 MetNY) travels to face MetNY opponent Hofstra (0-4 MetNY) on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m.
The Pride are coming off a 66-0 defeat against Rutgers on Sunday, Oct. 9. Hofstra has had a tough season thus far, as it has only scored two tries total in its four games played. The Pride's defense has been a point of concern, allowing 60.25 points per game, including a season high 71 points when it lost to Vassar, 71-5, on Sunday, Sept. 18. Overall, Hofstra has been shutout in two of its four contests.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac fell to Eastern Illinois, 33-5, on Saturday, Oct. 15. Similar to when the teams met earlier this season, the Bobcats once again held the Panthers scoreless through nearly 30 minutes of play. However, Eastern Illinois got on the board twice in the final 13 minutes of the first half to take a 12-0 lead into halftime.
The Bobcats were unable to contain the Panthers in the second half, as Junior Lauren Doyle raced in for her second of three tries of the afternoon just six minutes into the frame. Sophomore Diana Poulsen (Dover, N.J.) ran in Quinnipiac's try on the afternoon, taking an assist from freshman Elisa Cuellar (Palm Bay, Fla.). Junior Emily Carroll (Hull, Mass.) played an aggressive game for Quinnipiac, leading the squad with six tackles in the game.
Chance To Eclipse .500
Quinnipiac has the potential to become just the third team in the MetNY conference to have an above .500 record in league play, depending on Wednesday's outcome. The Bobcats are currently tied for third with two MetNY wins on the season.
Freshman Elisa Cuellar (Palm Bay, Fla.) collected an assist on Quinnipiac's lone try against Eastern Illinois. Overall, the freshman has a team-high four assists on the season and has earned at least one assist in three of the last four games.
The Bobcats are the most recent members to join the Metropolitan New York Rugby Football Union, which is the governing body for over 80 men's and women's youth, high school and college clubs in the Metropolitan New York City region. Quinnipiac plays in the MetNY College Women's Division II Conference, which is the home to Marist, Vassar, Rutgers, SUNY New Paltz, SUNY Stony Brook, and Hofstra.
Following Wednesday's game against Hofstra, Quinnipiac hosts SUNY Stony Brook in its final home contest of the season on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 12 p.m. Quinnipiac finishes its season with two away games, the first against Eastern Illinois on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 12 p.m. and the second against West Chester on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m.
