Season Series Against The Panthers
Quinnipiac and Eastern Illinois have faced each other two times during the 2011 season, as each team has played on its home turf. In their first meeting on Sunday, Sept. 18, the Panthers came away with a 24-0 victory. Despite being shutout, the Bobcats held the Panthers scoreless through nearly the first 30 minutes of play, and held Eastern Illinois to its second lowest scoring total of the season.
In the team's second meeting on Saturday, Oct. 15, Quinnipiac fell to Eastern Illinois, 33-5. Quinnipiac once again played the Panther's competitively, as Eastern Illinois was held scoreless for most of the first half before two quick tries brought the score to 14-0 at halftime. The Bobcats were led by junior Emily Carroll's (Hull, Mass.) six tackles on the afternoon, followed by freshman Elisa Cuellar's (Palm Bay, Fla.) five tackles. Sophomore Diana Poulsen (Dover, N.J.) ran in the Bobcats' only try on the afternoon, taking the assist from Cuellar.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac hosted Stony Brook and tied the Seawolves, 11-11, on its senior day in Hamden, Conn. on Sunday, Oct. 23. The first half saw back and forth action, as Quinnipiac grabbed the early 3-0 lead on a penalty kick off the foot of junior Krystin Orrico (Cranford, N.J.). Stony Brook responded with a penalty kick of its own, before running in its first try of the afternoon to take a 8-3 lead. Each team kicked through a penalty kick in the final 10 minutes of the first half to bring the score to 11-6 at halftime.
The second half was a much more defensive minded battle, as neither side could punch through for a score for nearly the entire half. However, Quinnipiac began dominating the possession towards the end of the game and scored its first try in the final minutes of action, as sophomore Christina DeJesus (Purchase, N.Y.) ran in her first try of the season to tie the score at 11.
MetNY Regular Season Comes To A Close
The Bobcats, who finished their first full regular season with a 3-2-1 record in MetNY action, hold sole possession of third place in league play. Quinnipiac finished with the third best defense in the league, holding opponents to just 18.66 points per game.
The Bobcats are the most recent members to join the Metropolitan New York Rugby Football Union, which is the governing body for over 80 men's and women's youth, high school and college clubs in the Metropolitan New York City region. Quinnipiac plays in the MetNY College Women's Division II Conference, which is the home to Marist, Vassar, Rutgers, SUNY New Paltz, SUNY Stony Brook, and Hofstra.
