The Quinnipiac women's rugby team (2-3) (2-2 MetNY) hosts fellow Division I opponent Eastern Illinois (5-0) on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 12 p.m. at Quinnipiac Rugby Field.

About Eastern Illinois
The Panthers are coming off a 43-15 victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday, Oct. 8. After trailing 10-7 at halftime, Eastern Illinois scored 36 unanswered points to run away with their fifth consecutive victory of the season. The Panthers were led offensively by junior Kayla Heal (three tries), sophomore Cara Hahne (two tries), junior Ashley Aardsmav (one try) and freshman Madison Kissner (one try). Senior Tina Crema led the squad on the defensive end, making a team-high nine tackles on the afternoon. Overall, Head leads the team with 12 tries on the year, while Kissner and Stefanie Mahan are tied for the team with 32 tackles.
Previous Matchup Against The Panthers
The Bobcats and Panthers met up earlier this season on Sunday, Sept. 18 in Charleston, Ill, as Eastern Illinois came away with the 24-0 victory. Quinnipiac stood toe-to-toe with the perennial power, holding the Panthers scoreless through the first 30 minutes of play. Two late tries and successful conversions made the score 14-0 at the half, while a try mid-way through the second half and a score in the final 30 seconds of the game brought the score to its final tally.
Junior Krystin Orrico (Cranford, N.J.) played an energized defensive game for the Bobcats, holding the Panthers scoreless multiple times when they were just yards from the in-goal line area. Each squad won 15 lineouts in the contest, while Eastern Illinois held a slight 14-12 advantage in scrums.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac's two-game winning streak was halted following a 38-5 loss to Vassar on Saturday, Oct. 8. Junior Colleen Doherty (Ashburnham, Mass.) and freshman Shannon Durkin (Oakland, Calif.) each led the squad with nine tackles, as Durkin also led the squad with five assisted tackles. Senior Alysha Andrews had one of her best games of the season, earning six tackles and three assisted tackles, as well as running in the Bobcats only try on the afternoon in the first half.
Bring 'Em Down
Quinnipiac nearly doubled its single-game tackle totals when it made a season-high 80 tackles against Vassar. The 80 tackles surpassed its previous high of 43 tackles, which it made on Sunday, Oct. 2 against Marist.
History In The Books
Quinnipiac's match-up against Eastern Illinois on Sunday, Sept. 18 marked the first time two Division I Women's Rugby team squared off on the pitch. Eastern Illinois became a Division I program in 2002, as Quinnipiac became the second member this season. The two sides will face each other a total of three times during this season, with Eastern Illinois hosting the final game.
The Bobcats are the most recent members to join the Metropolitan New York Rugby Football Union, which is the governing body for over 80 men's and women's youth, high school and college clubs in the Metropolitan New York City region. Quinnipiac will play in the MetNY College Women's Division II Conference, which is the home to Marist, Vassar, Rutgers, SUNY New Paltz, SUNY Stony Brook, and Hofstra.
Following Saturday's contest against Eastern Illinois the Bobcats travel to face Hofstra on Wednesday, Oct. 19 scheduled for a 12 p.m. start, followed by a home contest on Sunday, Oct. 23 against SUNY Stony Brook at 12 p.m. Quinnipiac finishes its season with two away games, the first against Eastern Illinois on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 12 p.m. and the second against West Chester on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m.
