Saturday, April 2, 2011 was a historic day for Quinnipiac Women's Rugby as the Bobcats played in their first competition in program history with a scrimmage against Southern Connecticut State University. Head Coach Becky Carlson's Bobcats lost to the Owls, 17-12.
Junior outside center Stephanie Hasher scored on an impressive 80 yard try in the second half of play. On the score, sophomore inside center Emily Carroll was credited with the assist. The Bobcats second try, which was scored by sophomore Meghan Hannemann, was assisted by junior scrum-half Meghan McClintock.
"We had an 80-yard run for a score in the second half, two trys
total and we held Southern Connecticut.," Carlson said. "I thought
we dominated the second half defensively. When we scored our first
points, the fans went nuts. This sport will be great for the
Quinnipiac campus in the fall. We lost 17-12, with only 8 weeks of
rugby under their belts."
Junior Jaqueline MacClearie added: "I'm hooked, that is the most
fun I have ever had in all the sports I have ever played!"
