Eight Bobcats Register Points But Women's Lacrosse Falls To Siena,15-11
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Quinnipiac outscored Siena 9-5 in the second half and had seven different goal scorers, but it was not enough as the Bobcats fell to the Saints 15-11 in Loudonville. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 2-5 in MAAC play while Siena improves to 2-4 in conference play.
Kyra Ochwat (Farmingdale, NY) led the Bobcats with her fourth consecutive hat trick. Ochwat registered four points with three goals and assist. She has now tallied hat tricks in six of her last eight games.
Kearney Sneath (Branford, Conn.) and Aileen Carey (Long Beach, N.Y.) tallied two goals each for the Bobcats while Sneath also added an assist. Michaela Tinsley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) added three points with a goal and two assists. Briana Fountain (Marshfield, Mass.), Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario), and Leah Walter (Londonderry, N.H.) rounded out the scoring as they registered a goal each for Quinnipiac. Kayla Fu (Severna Park, Md.) tallied her 10th point of the year with an assist on the day.
The first half was all Siena as they held advantages in shots (20-8), ground balls (14-3), and draw controls (9-4). Siena was 4-for-5 on first half draw clears while Quinnipiac was 3-for-7. Siena closed the first half by scoring five unanswered goals as they took a 10-2 lead.
Siena began the second half by scoring two goals in the first eight minutes and took a 12-3 lead. Quinnipiac settled down as Carey answered with a goal with 21:33 left. Ochwat followed with back to back goals as she completed the hat trick with 19:04 remaining.
The Bobcats outscored the Saints 5-2 in the last 12 minutes and cut the lead to four, but it wasn't enough by game's end. Sneath scored twice in the last 12 minutes as she added her 14th and 15th goals of the season. Fountain chipped in with her third goal of the year with 7:51 remaining while Walter added her first of the season and the second of her career with 3:45 remaining. Babstock wrapped up the scoring for Quinnipiac with her 13th of the season with 11 seconds left. Babstock has tallied a point in every game she has played this season (9).
In the second half Siena held a 14-12 ground ball advantage and an 8-7 draw controls advantage. Quinnipiac improved on second half clears as they went 8-of-10. Quinnipiac was also 2-for-5 on free position shots in the half.
Samantha Tilts (Port Washington, NY) added to her MAAC lead in saves with 11 on the afternoon. She made five first half saves and six second half saves. She also did not allow a free position goal as Siena went 0-for-6.
Quinnipiac will wrap up the 2014 season on Sunday, April 27th at 1 PM when they travel to Lewiston, N.Y. to take on the Niagara Purple Eagles.
