HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac senior women's ice hockey forward Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) will join the Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team for the remainder of the 2014 season. Babstock will join the women's lacrosse team after finishing her illustrious career in an ice hockey uniform.
"Kelly had a great first day of practice with the team. Obviously it will take some time for her to learn our systems and get into "lacrosse shape," but it was immediately apparent that she knows the game and is a fierce competitor," said Head Coach Danie Caro.
Babstock was recently named to All-ECAC Hockey First Team, as announced by the league at the Semifinal banquet hosted by Clarkson University. Babstock earned four All-ECAC Hockey honors and was a First Team selection for the third time this season. She led the team and ranked eighth in the country with 49 points (19 goals, 30 assists) in 36 games in 2013-14, became the first Quinnipiac women's ice hockey player to reach the 200 career point club and helped guide the Bobcats to an ECAC Hockey Semifinal appearance for just the third time in program history.
Babstock also has an impressive lacrosse background dating back to high school. Babstock was the leading scorer for her men's field lacrosse team at Port Credit Secondary School.
"I think that as Kelly settles in and figures out how we play, a lot of the skills she sharpened on the ice will translate well to the lacrosse field. She has solid stick work and good mechanics to go along with athletic ability and field sense, so she should help us be competitive," stated Caro.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Wednesday, March. 12th at home against Vermont. The game is slated for a 3 p.m start.
"The team is very excited about Kelly's arrival. I think she will adapt pretty quickly to our team culture, and she has already shown us that she is coachable," said Caro.
