Quinnipiac Women's Lacrosse Earns IWLCA Academic Squad Honors
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse team was honored for an eighth consecutive year by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA) and recognized with 2013 Academic Squad honors. Quinnipiac was one of 65 schools honored nationwide after posting a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
"I am incredibly proud of the achievements of our lacrosse student-athletes," said head coach Danie Caro upon the recognition from the IWLCA. "The team has earned Academic Squad status from the IWLCA every year since 2006. Each year the team leaders have decided to make academic achievement a priority, and they have been immensely successful."
Among those 190 recognized individual students for 2013 Individual Honor Roll awards were Bobcats' graduated senior Emily Mason (Fairfield, Conn.), and juniors Phoebe Laplante (New Bedford, Mass.), Kayla Fu (Severna Park, Md.), and Emily Samuelman (North Andover, Mass.). To be eligible, student-athletes must have reached a junior status for their school and achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher to qualify. Mason earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and elementary education.
"Emily Mason, Kayla Fu, Phoebe Laplante, and Emily Samuelman are all excellent students, and I am pleased to see them earn individual recognition from the IWLCA," said Caro. "Being a Division I student athlete is something to be proud of but being one that maintains over a 3.5 cumulative GPA is something that puts them in an exclusive category. They are incredible role models for their teammates and the student body at large."
In the 2012 season, the women's lacrosse team had two players qualify for the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll team, and has placed numerous student-athletes on the honor roll in each of the last eight years.
