Women's Lacrosse Visits Local Elementary School
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac Women's lacrosse team visited West Woods School in Hamden last Friday evening as part of the Athletic Department's Positive Play program. The Bobcats helped out with the school's Haunted House, assisted with craft projects and did face painting with the students.
Junior Emily Mason (Fairfield, Conn.) coordinated the lacrosse team's participation in the event and said, "it was really fun to work with the students at West Woods. My teammates enjoy interacting with younger children because it makes us appreciate our roles as mentors and see what a positive effect we can have on others."
Joining Mason at the event were juniors Lianne Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.), Kiera Carey (Long Beach, N.Y.), and Sarah Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.); sophomores Ari Anderson (Elkridge, Md.), Kelsey Maroney (West Granby, Conn.), and Melissa Warheit (Commack, N.Y.); and first year players Hadley Colman (Portsmouth, R.I), Kyra Ochwat (Farmingdale, N.Y.), Keira Flaherty (Braintree, Mass.), Samantha Tilts (Port Washington, N.Y.), Briana Fountain (Marshfield, Mass.), Vicki Kuhn (East Hampstead, N.H.), Diandra Hanna (Merrick, N.Y.), and Kayleigh Werner (Severna Park, Md.).
According to head coach Danie Caro, "the players that went to West Woods gave up their Friday night in order to give back to the community. That says something about the kind of people they are and how readily they have embraced our commitment to community service. I am very proud of the projects they have undertaken for Positive Play this year."
The women's lacrosse team will compete in their final fall tournament on Saturday, October 29 at the Quinnipiac Lacrosse Turf Field. Game times are 1:30 pm vs. Manhattan College and 4:00 pm against CW Post. The team will be sponsoring a bake sale and collecting donations as a fundraiser at the tournament to benefit the Bawa Health Initiative.
