Women's Lacrosse Falls To Bryant, 11-9

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Senior Laura Iannotti (Rocky Point, N.Y.) scored four goals, but the Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team fell to Northeast Conference opponent Bryant, 11-9, on Sunday afternoon at Bryant Track and Turf Complex. Quinnipiac falls to 4-1 in NEC action and 7-4 overall, while Bryant improves to 4-2 in the NEC and 5-8 overall.

"We played terrible today," said head coach Danie Caro. "We did not stick to our game plan and Bryant took advantage. I give credit to their team, they deserved to win today."

Junior Marissa Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y.) added two goals, while senior Jennifer Skipper (Centerport, N.Y.), junior Devon Gibney (Hopkinton, Mass.) and sophomore Sarah Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.) each netted one goal in the contest. Allen led all players with three assists in the game.

Caroleo led the Bobcats defensively, earning four ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers on the afternoon. Sophomore Chelsea Guerrera (Wantagh, N.Y.) collected three ground balls while senior Kaitlyn Kelly (North Massapequa, N.Y.) and junior Kim Davis (Darien, Conn.) each grabbed two.

Junior Noelle Martello (Westbury, Conn.) made 10 saves in net, while her counterpart Lauren Filippone turned away five shots for Bryant.

The Bobcats netted the first four goals of the game to take a 4-0 lead with 19:21 remaining in the contest. Iannotti, Allen, Gibney and Caroleo each scored for Quinnipiac during the run, before Bryant tallied its first goal of the contest with 13:56 remaining in the first half to make the score, 4-1.

Quinnipiac broke a nearly seven minute scoring drought when Iannotti scored her second goal of the afternoon with 7:23 remaining in the half. Bryant responded by scoring two quick goals separated by just 21 seconds from each other to bring the game to its halftime score of 5-3.

Following a goal by Bryant to start the second half, Caroleo scored her second goal of the contest off an assist from Allen, her third helper of the game, to bring the score to 6-4 with just under a minute elapsed in the second half. Bryant and Quinnipiac traded the next two goals, as Iannotti netted her third of the contest with 19:57 remaining in the game.

Bryant proceeded to score two goals 42 seconds apart from each other to tie the contest, 7-7. Bryant would net the next three goals of the contest to take a 10-7 lead with 4:05 remaining in the game.

Iannotti's fourth goal of the contest came with 2:16 remaining in the game, but a Bryant goal with 1:13 left in the game would stretch its lead to 11-8. Quinnipiac's final goal of the game was scored by Skipper, to give the game its final score, 11-9.

Quinnipiac returns to action on Friday, Apr. 15 when its hosts NEC opponent Wagner at 4 p.m. at Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Field.
