Katie Latonick Named NEC Women's Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week

HAMDEN, Conn. - Graduate student Katie Latonick (Severna Park, Md.) of the Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse team was named the Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Week for her performances over three games this past weekend. Latonick scored seven goals and added nine assists for 16 points in three NEC wins over Wagner, Robert Morris and Saint Francis (PA) to help the Bobcats remain undefeated and tied for first place with an 8-0 league mark. This is the second time in her career that Latonick has been honored as the league's top weekly player.

"Katie (Latonick) is really playing well right now, so I'm pleased that she's been recognized by the NEC for the week she had," head coach Danie Caro said. "She's a great player who's having a great year for us, and I couldn't be happier for her."

Against Wagner, the fifth-year member of the program recorded six points on two goals and four assists, while also picking up three ground balls in the 15-11 win. In the first game of the Bobcats' Western Pennsylvania road trip against Robert Morris, Latonick scored once and added an assist to go along with two ground balls, one draw control and a caused turnover.

Perhaps the biggest game of the season for Latonick came on Sunday against Saint Francis when she matched her season-high with eight points while pushing the Bobcats' win streak to eight games. She netted four tallies and dished out four assists as part of Quinnipiac's offensive explosion that resulted in 19 goals. Away from the offensive side she was also effective, picking up one ground ball and causing one turnover.

This season she leads the NEC in points per game (5.13) and assists per game (3.38) in conference tilts. Her nine assists this weekend pushed her over the 100-assist mark for her career. She now has 103 assists in four seasons with Quinnipiac, 30 more than the closest player in program history.

Quinnipiac returns home to take on Columbia in the final regular season home game of 2010 on Wednesday, April 14 at 4 p.m. The Bobcats will then take on Sacred Heart Saturday in Fairfield with the NEC Regular Season title on the line and the right to host the conference tournament.
