This
Weekend
The Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse team will make
its semi-annual trip to Western Pennsylvania this weekend to take
on Robert Morris and Saint Francis (Pa.). The Bobcats travel to
Moon Township, Pa., Friday, April 9 at 12:30 p.m., to square off
with the Colonials in the first game of the weekend before making
the two-hour trip east to play the Red Flash on Sunday, April 11 at
1 p.m., in Loretto. The Bobcats enter the weekend with a 6-0 record
in Northeast Conference play with a chance to lock up one of the
high seeds in the league's postseason tournament with two wins.
Scouting Robert Morris
The Colonials are currently in third place in the league
standings with a 3-2 mark, trailing just Quinnipiac and Sacred
Heart. Robert Morris is trying to break the cycle of the same four
teams qualifying for the NEC Tournament every season, by knocking
out either Monmouth or the Mount in 2010. Picked fourth by the NEC
coaches in the Preseason Poll, the Colonials have not been far off
that prediction. Senior attacker Alana Beck was named the NEC
Player of the Week for her performances last weekend in games
against the Red Flash and cross-town rivals from Duquesne. She
leads the team in scoring with 27 goals and 35 points. Ashley
Trombetta is not far behind with 34 points on 20 goals and a
team-best 14 assists.
Scouting Saint Francis
The Red Flash started the season winners of two of their
first three games after entering the season just 3-100 in program
history. Saint Francis then rattled off two wins to start the NEC
season, the first two conferences victories in program history.
Since those two wins, the Red Flash fell in three-straight league
games and four straight overall. Kate Simmons leads the team with
34 goals and 46 points in 2010, while Chelsea Kent's team-best 13
assists have her second in scoring with 33 points. Danielle Pokusa
has been the starter in net all season, posting all six wins, while
allowing opponents to score just north of 13 goals per game.
Six
Shooter
Devon Gibney (Hopkinton, Mass.) recorded six points in a
game for the fourth time this season at Wagner. Her four goals and
two points matched her career high in points set last season at
Robert Morris and equaled the four times in 2010.
Latonick Leads
Team captain Katie Latonick (Severna Park, Md.) picked up
three more assists this season to give her 97 in her career and 30
this season. The graduate student in her fifth season with the
program leads the NEC in assists per game, averaging 2.73 a
contest. That is nearly one assist more per game than anyone else
in the conference.
Trio
of One
Senior Lyndsey Banach (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored a
season-high three goals against Wagner. She matched that figure
with season highs in ground balls, draw controls and points, all
with three.
Pick
It Up
After being named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week for
the second time this season, junior Kaitlyn Kelly (North
Massapequa, N.Y.) responded with four draw controls against the
Seahawks. Already owning the NEC's top single-game mark for draw
controls with seven against Bryant, Kelly is second on the team
with 26 this season.
New
Name in the Box Score
Sophomore Jane Moldovan (Shoreham, N.Y.) scored her second
goal of the season at Wagner. She had previously scored this year
against LIU on Mar. 26. The goal against the Seahawks was just the
third of her career, scoring once last season in a win over
Detroit-Mercy.
