Bryant University
Bulldogs (3-1)

2010 - 11 a.m.
Quinnipiac Field
Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Field - Hamden, Conn.
Saturday's Game
The Quinnipiac
University women's lacrosse team begins its Northeast Conference
schedule Saturday when it plays host to Bryant at 11 a.m. The
Bobcats are coming off a heartbreaking 14-12 loss to Fairfield on
Thursday afternoon in the team's home opener. The two-goal loss
dropped the Bobcats to 0-3 this season. Bryant comes into the
contest first in the standings as the only team to win an NEC game
this season, while just 1-4 overall.
Scouting the
Bulldogs
Bryant's win against
Central Connecticut on Mar. 6 was the first win of the season. It
also marked the program's first win in NEC as this is its first
season as a true member of the league. The 14-10 win against the
Blue Devils in the first NEC game of the season helped the Bulldogs
snap a three-game losing skid to start the year. Since defeating
CCSU, Bryant fell to nonconference opponent Presbyterian, 13-11, on
the road on Mar. 9. Lauren Sheridan leads the team with 12 goals,
while Allison Faiola is second with 11. Both are tied for the team
lead with 14 points, while Mary Green and her team-best eight
assists rank third with 13 points.
Oh-Fer
The Bobcats are
currently on a three-game losing streak to start the season. This
marks the first time that Quinnipiac has lost three games in a row
since the 2008 season when they won their first NEC Regular Season
Championship and made the first of consecutive appearances in the
league's title game.
Gibney's Goal
Sophomore Devon
Gibney (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored four times against the Stags.
Three of her four goals came in the first half of play, while the
fourth was part of a 3-0 run to start the second half. She also
recorded two assists in the loss to tie her career high of six
points.
Firsts For Two
Freshmen Chelsea
Guerrera (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Sarah Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.) each
scored the first goals of their college careers against Fairfield.
The goal by Guerrera just over the midway point of the first half
was the first point of her career, while Allen had already recorded
four assists before notching her first tally.
Split It In Half
After scoring four
times in the loss to Brown, sophomore Marissa Caroleo (North
Babylon, N.Y.) scored twice against the Stags. Her first goal
sparked a 5-0 Quinnipiac run midway through the first half before
scoring her team's 12th and final goal with 10:28 left in the
game.
Back-to-Back
Junior defender
Kaitlyn Kelly (North Massapequa, N.Y.) scored her second goal of
the season midway through the first. Her tally was the fifth of a
5-0 Bobcats' run and also marked the first time that Kelly has ever
scored goals in consecutive games.
Formidable Fours
Gibney, Lauren
Matuszczak (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and goalkeeper Noelle Martello
(Westbury, N.Y.) all collected season and game highs with four
ground balls each. The four ground balls were a new career high for
Martello who now has new career marks in saves (13 at Brown) and
ground balls in the last two games.
One
and One is Two
For the first time
this season, graduate student Katie Latonick (Severna Park, Md.)
scored a goal and picked up an assist in the same game. The
program's single-season assist leader with 44 last season has just
two through the first three games this year, with the second coming
on a Matuszczak goal to start the second half. She also notched her
third marker of the season with 14:20 remaining in the first
half.
