HAMDEN, Conn. Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse senior midfielder Ashley Valentine (Friendship, Md.) was named the Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week. This is the second time in her career that Valentine has been named the NEC Player of the Week, with her first coming on April 2, 2007. She was also named the NEC Rookie of the Week during her freshman season of 2006. Valentine led the Bobcats with 10 points on six goals and four assists in the team's two wins against Saint Francis (Pa.) and Robert Morris over the weekend. Her defensive play also limited two of the top offensive players from the Colonials and Red Flash to four points.
Against Saint Francis (Pa.), Valentine recorded three goals and three assists for a season-high six points. The senior co-captain added three ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers in the Bobcats' 24-9 win. During Quinnipiac's first-half 14-0 run, Valentine was one of five players to score two goals.
Valentine helped the Bobcats come from behind to defeat Robert Morris in the team's next game. Assisting on the first Quinnipiac goal of the game, she netted two goals of her own in the opening half. Valentine scored the Bobcats' eighth goal, tying the game for the first time since the opening minutes. She also added three ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control in the win, while holding Robert Morris' Jillian Howley to just two points.
is the fifth consecutive week that a member of the Bobcats has been
honored by the NEC and the third time one has been named the Player
of the Week. Valentine joins Nicole Fiore (Monroe, Conn.) and Katie
Latonick (Severna Park, Md.) as Player of the Week recipients.
