LORETTO, Pa. The Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse team defeated Saint Francis (Pa.), 24-9, at DeGol Field. A 17-goal first-half outburst helped lift the Bobcats to the victory against their Northeast Conference foe. The win improves the Bobcats' mark to 4-1 in NEC play and 8-2 overall, while the Red Flash drop to 0-6 in conference play and 1-9 overall this season.
After Saint Francis scored the game's opening goal, Quinnipiac's Christine Sinnigen (Sudbury, Conn.) scored two quick tallies followed by the first from senior Nicole Fiore (Monroe, Conn.). The Red Flash scored twice more to tie the game at 3-3 with 24:26 remaining in the first half.
The Bobcats would break the tie with its biggest scoring run of the season. Quinnipiac rattled off 14-consecutive goals over a 23-minute span to take a 17-3 lead. During that time, Fiore, Sinnigen, Tiffany Manzi (Agawam, Mass.), Devon Gibney (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Ashley Valentine (Friendship, Md.) all scored twice. Katie Latonick (Severna Park, Md.) had a goal and two assists, while Katelyn Vennard (Albany, N.Y.) Lauren Matuszczak (East Longmeadow, Mass.) each had goals.
The second half saw the Bobcats slow down the offensive tempo, scoring just seven goals to secure the 15-goal win. Sophomore Laura Iannotti (Rocky Point, N.Y.) scored twice in the second frame for her first two goals of the season. Keiley Indivero (Cicero, N.Y.) notched her second assist of the season on the final goal of the game from Banach, giving the Bobcats the 24-9 win.
Freshman goalkeeper Noelle Martello (Westbury, N.Y.) made seven saves in earning her fifth win of the season for the Bobcats. Saint Francis' Danielle Pokusa picked up the loss, stopping nine Quinnipiac shots in the game.
Valentine and Sinnigen finished tied with a game-high six points. Valentine posted three goals and three assists and Sinnigen scored four times and added two assists with all her points coming in the first half. Manzi posted a season-best five points and four goals, while adding one assist and four draw controls. Latonick, the current NEC Player of the Week, had one goal and four assists, while Fiore netted three goals and added two assists.
Quinnipiac continues its road trip on Saturday, April 11, when it travels to Moon Township, Pa., to take on Robert Morris. The Bobcats and Colonials are set to square off at noon.
