Nicole Fiore Named NEC Women's Lacrosse Player Of The Week

HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior Nicole Fiore (Monroe, Conn.) of the Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse team was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week. Fiore led the Bobcats with four goals in each of the Bobcats' two wins last week against Central Connecticut and Iona. She is the NEC leader in goals per game (3.75), while ranking second in points per game (4.5) this season. The senior attacker finished the week with eight goals, one assist, three ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers. This is Fiore's first NEC weekly accolade of her career.

In the Bobcats' 15-7 NEC win against Central Connecticut, Fiore netted four goals, including three in the first half to help build a 9-1 lead at the break. Her final goal of the game came just over 10 minutes into the second half and gave Quinnipiac a nine-goal advantage, 12-3. She picked up her third assist of the season after making a quick pass to sophomore Jennifer Skipper (Centerport, N.Y.) in the middle of the eight-meter arc.

Against Iona, Fiore helped spark Quinnipiac's second-half comeback with three goals in the final period of play after the team trailed by three, 8-5, midway through. She scored the game-tying goal with 1:38 remaining in the game on a high shot that found its way into the top of the net, beating Iona's goalkeeper for the equalizer for her 15th of the season. Fiore set up the final goal of the game by senior Tiffany Manzi (Feeding Hills, Mass.) with six seconds remaining after finding the midfielder at the upper right corner of the eight-meter arc.

Quinnipiac returns to action on Friday, Mar. 20, when it begins a five-game homestand against Detroit-Mercy. The Bobcats and Titans square off from the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Field at 2:30 p.m.
