HAMDEN, Conn. The Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse team was one of just 50 Division I teams to be recognized as one of Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coach's Association Division I Academic Squads. The distinction is given to teams with a collective GPA of 3.0 or higher. Quinnipiac finished 15th in the nation with a 3.26 team GPA last season.
"It's great for our team. We emphasize the academic aspects first because that is the real reason they are in school," Head Coach Danie Caro said. "They are called student-athletes and not athlete-students for a reason."
Tiffany Manzi (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Hannah Nelson (Glastonbury, Conn.) were named to the IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll. Qualified players must have junior eligibility and carry a 3.2 GPA to be considered.
"Tiffany and Hannah are great role models for all athletes at Quinnipiac," Caro said. "They can balance both academics and athletics, while playing at a high level that earned Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. They are the epitome of the student-athlete."
