EAST HAVEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey made a concerted effort to give back on Sunday, Ja n. 19 as a strong contingent of Bobcats made a trip down to the East Haven Veterans Memorial Rin k to hold an instructional clinic for members of the Shoreline Sharks youth hockey league. The community service event was part of Quinnipiac's Positive Play initiative to encourage their student-athletes, coaches and staff members to volunteer and give back to the surrounding communities.

Aged from eight-year-old all the way up to the mid-teens, about 50 members of the Shoreline Sharks youth hockey league attended the hour-long instructional clinic. The following Bobcats made the trip down to help act as coaches for the day: Amanda Colin, Olivia Brackett, Kelly Babstock, Elena Orlando, Sh elby Wignall, Ashley Winslow, Morgan Fritz-Ward, Shiann Darkangelo, Chelsea Laden, Nicole Brown, Nicole Connery, Cydney Roesler, Kristen Tamberg, Lindsey West, Taryn Baumgardt, Emma Greco, Mika Nervick, Meghan Turner and Emma Woods.

After taking the ice for a warmup skate for 10 minutes, all Shoreline Shark players were called to the middle to be broken into similar age groups for six different five-minute long drills with Quinnipiac players. Among the drills taught by groups of three to four Bobcats included skating speed, stick handling, shot placement, one-on-one breakouts, tape-to-tape passing and work along the boards.

The training sessions lasted roughly 40 minutes before the Quinnipiac players gathered on one end of the ice for a five-on-five scrimmage in front of Shoreline Shark goalies. The Bobcats were able to poke home four goals in the 10 minute session but were denied several times at the doorstep from the younger goalies. After the final whistle sounded, the three goalies to see action were all met by both Sharks and Bobcats and congratulated for their efforts against the Division I athletes.

A quick two-minute photo session followed the scrimmage as the hour-long clinic came to an end for both sides.
