ALBANY, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team made it two-for-two this season as freshman Meghan Turner (Bedford, N.H.) was named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013. Turner wins her first career weekly award as she continues to play impressive all-around hockey for the No. 10 nationally-ranked Bobcats (3-0-1) as they head into their third week of the 2013-14 season.

This marks the second straight week in which a Bobcat player has earned the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week award to start this season as fellow classmate Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario) won the hono r last Tuesday. This marks the fourth time overall and last time since Feb. 21-28, 2012 that the Bobcats have won the award in consecutive weeks.

Turner had herself a nice showing in the Bobcats' home-opening weekend with two points (one goal, one assist) and a tie for the team-leading plus/minus rating (+3). Turner proved herself as one of the most well-rounded skaters on the team as she was a key contributor on the Bobcats' main penalty-killing unit that denied Penn State on all four of their attempts this past weekend.

Turner's game of the weekend came on Friday night as she went for her first career multi-point game (one goal, one assist) in the Bobcats' 5-1 victory over the Nittany Lions. Turner's first career point came at 4:12 in the second period as she was the lead assist on Shiann Darkangelo's power-play game-winning goal. She later capped the Quinnipiac scoring at 16:48 in the third period as she roofed a wicked wrister past the Penn State goalie and below the crossbar to light the lamp for the first time in Turner's career.

The No. 10 Bobcats and Turner will be back in action this coming weekend as they travel up to Alfond Arena to take on the Hockey East's Maine Black Bears.
