HAMDEN, Conn. – USCHO.com women's Division I columnist Arlan Marttila recently wrote a feature column previewing the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey's season.
The Bobcats are coming off a 20-12-4 season with a program record 13 ECAC Hockey victories in 2012-13. The team returns 16 players from that record-breaking squad in addition to eight newcomers including seven freshmen and an incoming junior transfer from Syracuse, Shiann Darkangelo (Brighton, Mich.). Quinnipiac will battle through a testy 34-game regular season in 2013-14, host the annual Nutmeg Classic on Nov. 29-30, will play a program record 20 home games and the season culminates with the 2014 NCAA Women's Frozen Four being played at High Point Solutions Arena.
The new season has already started with a bang as the Bobcats are coming off a 1-0-1 opening weekend on the road against the WCHA's St. Cloud State Huskies. Junior Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minn.) won ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week after holding St. Cloud to one goal against 46 shots while ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week Emma Woods provided the goal-scoring with a pair of tallies, including the game-winner, within the last five minutes of play.
The Bobcats will be hosting Penn State this weekend for their first ever meeting with the Nittany Lions. Games are scheduled for Friday at 7:00 pm and Saturday at 4:00 pm.
