Quinnipiac Women's Ice Hockey Announces 2013-14 Schedule, Individual Tickets Go On Sale On Oct. 1

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's ice hockey head coach Rick Seeley has announced the Bobcats' 2013-14 35-game schedule (one exhibition) that features a program record 20 home games, seven matchups against NCAA Tournament participants from last season, a season-opening trip out to St. Cloud, Minn. for a pair of games against the Huskies, hosting the 10th annual Nutmeg Classic and the culmination as the High Point Solutions Arena will play host to the 2014 NCAA Women's Frozen Four in March. Season tickets are still available while individual game tickets will go on sale on Oct. 1.

"This is a very exciting schedule for us," Seeley sid. "Our non-conference opponents range from perennial powers, Boston College and New Hampshire, to second-year Division I teams Penn State and Rochester Institute of Technology. We host the NCAA Frozen Four as well as the 10th Annual Nutmeg Classic. When you throw in our usual tough conference schedule, including Clarkson, Cornell, St. Lawrence and Harvard, we anticipate being in a battle from exhibition to playoffs."

Entering his sixth season at the helm of the women's ice hockey program, Seeley has vaulted the Bobcats into one of the perennial powers in Division I as the team has now won 80 games over the past four seasons. Quinnipiac won a program-best 13 games last season in the vaunted ECAC Hockey, which sent a nation-leading three teams into the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Returning 16 letterwinners from a season ago, the Bobcats are primed for another successful season with home ice expected to play a key role.

Quinnipiac will first test the waters with a home exhibition bout against the Guelph Gryphons on Sept. 28 before the team's season-opener, slated for Oct. 4-5 from the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. This marks the first time since 2008 that the Bobcats will face a Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) opponent and the just the second time that Quinnipiac has played the Huskies on the road (last road meeting: Jan. 7, 2003).

Among the remaining non-conference rundown includes a first-time meeting with the Penn St. Nittany Lions (10/11, 10/12) and the continuing annual meeting with the Maine Black Bears (10/18, 10/19) as the Bobcats will travel up to Alfond Arena. Continuing the non-conference slate, the Bobcats will do battle at home against annual rival Boston College (11/15) and New Hampshire (11/16) along with Robert Morris (1/17, 1/18).

The end of October marks the beginning of ECAC Hockey competition as the Bobcats will look to build upon their most successful run through conference play in program history last season. Quinnipiac will begin its ninth season as an ECAC Hockey member and will play a home-and-home starting with Harvard and Dartmouth and then continuing with Colgate, Cornell, Brown, Yale, St. Lawrence, Clarkson, Princeton, Union and RPI.

The Bobcats' ECAC Hockey home-opening weekend will pit them against Colgate (11/1) and Cornell (11/2). Quinnipiac will carry a load of momentum into their meeting with Cornell (2013 NCAA Tournament team) as their 4-1 home victory over the Big Red on Feb. 8, 2013 was just their second-ever against a Top-5 nationally ranked opponent, first victory over Cornell since Nov. 18, 2006 (14 games) and their first home win over Cornell in program history.

After their third straight ECAC Hockey weekend series at Brown (11/8) and Yale (11/9), the Bobcats enter a crucial stage wherein the team will look to take advantage of the nine home games in their next 10 contests (15 of the next 22 overall to close out the season).

The High Point Solutions Arena will play host to the 10th annual Nutmeg Classic in late November that features four teams, three schools from Conn., for the first time since 2010. The fourth squad this year will be College Hockey America's RIT, whom will also represent the Bobcats' first round opponent on Friday, Nov. 29. This marks another first-time meeting for Quinnipiac as the Tigers will be entering just their second season as a Division I program. The Bobcats will then host either UConn or Yale (11/30) depending on the results of the first round.

Conference matchups dominate the remainder of the schedule as the Bobcats will only have one weekend series remaining (Robert Morris 1/17, 1/18) that doesn't include ECAC Hockey opponents.

Quinnipiac will be looking to make their fifth-consecutive appearance in the ECAC Hockey Tournament as the Quarterfinal stage is slated for Feb. 28 – March 2. Eight teams out of 12 make the postseason with the four Quarterfinal best-of-three matchups being played at the highest seeded team. The ECAC Semifinals and Final will be held March 7 – 8 with both stages being held at the highest-remaining seed.

The 2014 NCAA Tournament will commence the following weekend as three automatic qualifiers from the winners of the WCHA, Hockey East and ECAC Hockey conference tournaments will be paired amongst five schools receiving an at-large berth. The First Round will feature eight teams and four games played at the higher-seeded team. Then the 2014 Frozen Four will be held from March 21-23 at the High Point Solutions Arena in Hamden, Conn. Quinnipiac is the first ECAC Hockey institution to host the NCAA Women's Frozen Four on campus since its inception in 2001.
