HAMILTON, N.Y. – The ECAC Hockey/Hogan Hockey Player of the Month for October Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) was at it again for Quinnipiac, netting the game-winner in the second to lift the Bobcats to a 2-1 win over Colgate on Friday at the Starr Rink. After a program-record 20 points in eight games throughout Oct., Babstock tallied another two on Friday as she added an assist on the first goal. Sophomore forward Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) added two assists and senior goalie Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) denied 13-of-14 Raider shots to preserve the victory. The Bobcats leave Hamilton, N.Y. with a 5-3-1 (2-1 ECAC Hockey) record while Colgate falls to 2-7 (0-3 ECAC Hockey).
Quinnipiac extends its winning streak against Colgate to four games and also earns their first ECAC Hockey road win of the season. The tandem of Babstock and Kosta, each with multi-point outings on Friday, earned their sixth multi-point game of the season. The two have combined for 39 points (15 goals, 24 assists) of the team's 82 total points (47.6 percent) through nine games of the 2012-13 season.
The lethal Quinnipiac power-play, coming into Friday as the fifth-best in the nation at 30.8 percent (12-for-39), struck for the first goal of the afternoon in the first period. With the puck down low, Babstock swung over to Kosta at the faceoff circle. Kosta moved towards the net, faked a shot and passed through the crease to an open Lyons who tipped it in from the left post for the goal. The goal was the fifth of the season for Lyons while Kosta recorded her 12th assist and it was Babstock's 11th.
The Raiders evened the score with a power-play goal in the second period. Colgate crowded Vigilanti with three skaters in front. The shot from the point deflected in front and was pushed in by Brittany Phillips for her first goal of the season.
Babstock and the Bobcats had an answer less than three minutes later. Freshman Nicole Connery (Newmarket, Ontario) pushed a transition pass up to Kosta who feed Babstock up the left side boards. She skated in on a two-on-one up ice and roofed a shot over the stick-side of Colgate goalie Ashlynne Rando. The puck deflected off the crossbar and in for Babstock's 11th goal of the season. Kosta was credited with her 13th assist while Connery tallied her second.
Vigilanti and the Bobcat defense line severely limited the Raider's scoring opportunities in the third period as Colgate managed only two shots-on-goal in the final stanza.
The game-winning goal for Babstock is her first of the season and 15th of her illustrious scoring career. With her two assists, Kosta moves into second place in ECAC Hockey in helpers as she stands one behind Clarkson's Erin Ambrose whose 14 lead the conference.
The Bobcats will have a quick turnover as they head up to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on No. 2 nationally-ranked Cornell tomorrow at 3 p.m.
