In what amounts to a game of inches, the No. 4 seed Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team couldn’t get the breaks to fall their way as they were eliminated from the ECAC Hockey playoffs after a 2-0 loss to No. 5 St. Lawrence on Sunday from High Point Solutions Arena. After coming through with a dramatic 3-2 victory in three overtimes the night before to force a Game Three in the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals, the Saints were able to withstand the initial Bobcat rush and their two first period goals held up in regulation for the series-clinching victory. The Bobcats finish the season 20-12-4 in what was the final home game in the careers of six illustrious Quinnipiac seniors.

No. 4 Seed Quinnipiac Women's Ice Hockey Hosts No. 5 St. Lawrence in ECAC Hockey Quarterfinal Action This Weekend

This weekend will feature just the second home playoff series in the history of the Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey program. The Bobcats needed to overcome a two-point deficit against St. Lawrence over the final weekend and did just that with four points compared to just one for the Saints. With the regular season now complete, the No. 4 seeded Quinnipiac Bobcats (19-10-4, 13-6-3 ECAC Hockey) will take on the No. 5 seed St. Lawrence Saints (17-12-5, 12-6-4 ECAC Hockey) from High Point Solutions Arena this weekend. This is the fourth straight postseason appearance for the Bobcats and their first home playoff series since 2010 when they fell to RPI in three games at home. Bad memories still loom from that series however, as the Bobcats dropped the final two games of the series including a 2-1 decision in five overtime periods, in what is still the second-longest game played at the college level in NCAA history.

Home Ice in ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals on the Line This Weekend for Women's Ice Hockey; Travels to Yale and Brown

The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team (17-10-4, 11-6-3 ECAC Hockey) enters the final weekend of the regular season ready to travel to Yale (4-19-3, 3-13-3 ECAC Hockey) and Brown (6-18-1, 5-15-0 ECAC Hockey) looking to seize control of home ice for the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals. Currently the ECAC Hockey point standings has the Bobcats (25 points) sitting in fifth place, two points behind the fourth seed St. Lawrence Saints (27 points). Due to a win and tie against the Saints this season, the Bobcats need to finish the weekend at least tied with St. Lawrence in points to secure the home ice advantage for the Quarterfinal Round. Two wins and a St. Lawrence loss would do the trick and help Quinnipiac host just their second ECAC Hockey Tournament series in program history and for the first time since the 2010 Quarterfinals. Dartmouth (24 points) is also breathing down the Bobcats’ neck and could force the Bobcats into a sixth seed with potential outcomes to be determined over the weekend.

An inspired effort from the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team wasn’t enough on Saturday from Cheel Arena as No. 6 Clarkson’s Carly Mercer scored with 5.1 seconds remaining to leave with a 1-0 victory over the Bobcats. Senior goalie Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) took the tough luck loss on Saturday despite 30 saves including several stellar stops to keep her team in the game.
Defense Plays Big for Women's Ice Hockey Down the Stretch; Helps Earn 1-1 Tie With St. Lawrence

Heading into Friday’s matchup deadlocked in the ECAC Hockey Point standings, the Quinnipiac Bobcats and St. Lawrence Saints battled throughout and left Appleton Arena still tied after a 1-1 draw. The Bobcats battled off two Saints power play opportunities in the closing minutes of the third period and overtime as senior goalie Victoria Vigilanti (32 saves) and the Quinnipiac defense played big throughout. Due to their win over the Saints earlier in the season, the Bobcats (17-9-4, 11-5-3 ECAC Hockey) keep hold of the fourth and final home playoff ice seed as they finish with the series victory over St. Lawrence (16-11-4, 11-5-3 ECAC Hockey).

Crucial ECAC Hockey Points on the Line This Weekend for Women's Ice Hockey; Bobcats Travel to St. Lawrence and No. 6 Clarkson

After a pivotal home weekend sweep of No. 4 Cornell and Colgate, the Bobcats (17-9-3, 11-5-2 ECAC Hockey) take to the road for two must-win games against St. Lawrence (16-11-3, 11-5-2 ECAC Hockey) and No. 6 Clarkson (23-7, 15-3 ECAC Hockey) if the team has hopes of hosting their ECAC Hockey Quarterfinal matchup. Currently tied with the Saints for fourth place in the ECAC Hockey point standings with 24 each, a victory over St. Lawrence would give the Bobcats a season sweep and two points over their conference foe. After Friday’s contest the Bobcats will hit the road just a couple towns over for a matchup with the No. 6 nationally-ranked Golden Knights. Quinnipiac looks to avenge their 4-1 loss earlier this season to Clarkson and hope to do so at a place, Cheel Arena, where they last defeated the Golden Knights in the 2012 ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals.
