The Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey team was ranked ninth in the 2011-12 USCHO.com Preseason Poll, as announced today by the college hockey website.
Quinnipiac is coming off of its most successful season in program history. The Bobcats won a program-record 22 games in 2010-11 and advanced to the ECAC Hockey Semifinals for the first time in program history. The Bobcats return all nine of its top scorers from last season, including 2011 ECAC Hockey Player and Rookie of the Year Kelly Babstock and All-ECAC Hockey selection Victoria Vigilanti. Both players were also selected to the 2011-12 All-ECAC Hockey Preseason Team.
Reigning national champion Wisconsin was picked first, with 140 points and 14 first-place votes, followed by Boston University (116 pts.). 2010-11 ECAC Hockey champion Cornell (111) was picked third while Minnesota (96) and Boston College (85) rounded out the preseason top five. Minnesota-Duluth (75) was sixth, followed by North Dakota (44) and Mercyhurst (42). The Bobcats, making their first USCHO.com Preseason Poll, received 17 points, while Dartmouth and Providence tied for 10th with 12 points.

Quinnipiac begins its regular season schedule on the road with a two-game set against Mercyhurst on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. The Bobcats also host Durham Jr. Lightning for an exhibition game on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at High Points Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center.
