Nicole Kosta And Canada's U-22 Squad Earn Bronze Medal At 2012 Meco Cup

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's ice hockey freshman forward Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) and Canada's Under-22/Development Team settled for a third place finish at this year's 2012 Meco Cup in Germany this past Sunday, Jan. 8. Kosta collected a goal and two assists in five tournament games, as Canada (3-2) finished behind Finland (4-1) and Sweden (5-0) to earn the bronze medal.

Canada got off to a fast start, defeating Germany, Russia and Switzerland in the team's first three tournament matchups. In those games, Kosta netted a goal during Canada's 4-1 win over Germany on Tuesday, Jan. 3, before adding two assists in the team's 6-0 victory over Switzerland on Friday, Jan. 6. The Canadian squad then lost an overtime contest to Sweden, 3-2, on Saturday, Jan. 7 and was defeated on penalty shots (1-0) against Finland after skating to a 2-2 tie in regulation on Sunday, Jan. 8.

In two exhibition contests prior to the start of the tournament, Kosta tallied two points (one goal, one assist) in games against Slovakia. Kosta picked up an assist in the team's 8-0 win over Slovakia on Friday, Dec. 30, and tallied a goal in the team's 5-0 victory the following Saturday, Dec. 31.

Kosta rejoins her fellow Quinnipiac teammates in time for this weekend's ECAC Hockey road matchups when the squad takes on Cornell on Friday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. and Colgate on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 4 p.m.
