HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior defender Jordan Elkins (Wasilla, Alaska) netted her third goal in as many games and junior goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) collected her third shutout of the season, as the two helped the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team continue its strong start in ECAC Hockey action, shutting out Yale, 3-0, on Friday evening at High Point Solutions Arena. The win improves Quinnipiac's ECAC Hockey record to 3-0 (4-5 overall), while Yale falls to 0-3 in ECAC Hockey Action and 0-6 overall.
The Bobcats netted their first goal on the Elkins tally at the 13:51 mark into the first period. Senior defender Melissa Perry (Chelsea, Mich.) got a stick on a rebound off a shot from sophomore forward Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) and pushed it up ice to the Wasilla native, who then blasted a shot from the blue line past Yale's senior goaltender Genny Ladiges. The goal for Elkins was her third of the season, while the assists for Perry and Babstock were their second and fourth, respectively.
Quinnipiac jumped out to the 2-0 lead just 44 seconds into the second period of play of a score from junior defender Regan Boulton (Brandon, Manitoba), her first tally of the season. Sophomore forward Amanda Colin's (Burnsville, Minn.) shot was collected by the defender, who skated around the net to tap in the early goal. On the score, freshman Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) earned her first of two assists in the game.
The Bobcats continued to pressure the net, finding their third score at the 9:03 mark into the frame on Colin's second goal of the year. Ladiges was once again unable to contain the outside shot from Elkins and allowed the rebound to fall at the feet of Colin who would not waste her opportunity. Elkins and Kosta each earned an assist on the goal.
Vigilanti had a relatively quiet night in net, turning away all 13 shots faced in the contest. Ladiges made 41 saves in goal for Yale.
Quinnipiac was whistled for two penalties on the evening, while Yale was called for five penalties.
Quinnipiac returns to action tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, Nov. 5, when it hosts ECAC Hockey opponent Brown at 4 p.m.
