HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's ice hockey sophomore forward Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) has been named ECAC Hockey/Fischer-Hockey Player of the Month, as announced by the league on Friday, Dec. 2.
Babstock, who was named Quinnipiac Female Athlete of the Month on Wednesday, Nov. 30, finished November with 15 points on six goals and nine assists in nine games. The sophomore earned Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, Nov. 22 following a five-point weekend performance against Colgate and No. 2/3 Cornell. During the Colgate contest in which she collected four points (two goals, two assists), Babstock became the program's all-time leader in career points, passing Vicki Graham's 73 career points, which she set in 2007.
Babstock broke her second record of the month when she passed Caitlin Peters ('04) for most career assists in program history, collecting her 40th and 41st career helpers on the evening against Robert Morris in the team's 3-2 win in the Nutmeg Classic Championship Game. For her outstanding efforts in the tournament, Babstock was awarded tournament MVP, finishing with a team-high four points (one goal, three assists) in the two weekend games against Connecticut and Robert Morris.
The Mississauga native scored one of the most memorable goals thus far on the season on Tuesday, Nov. 22 against No. 4 Boston College, netting the Bobcats' game-tying goal with just 10 seconds remaining in regulation. Quinnipiac went on to defeat the Eagles in overtime, 2-1, earning the program's first-ever victory over a top-5 nationally ranked opponent. Babstock leads the team with 22 points on 10 goals and 12 assists, and is currently second among all ECAC Hockey skaters in points, tied for second in goals and tied for fourth in assists.
Babstock and the Bobcats return to ECAC Hockey action when they travel to face Brown on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m., followed by an afternoon contest against Yale on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m.
