HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's ice hockey freshman goaltender Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minn.) has been named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Laden earns her first-ever Rookie of the Week honors after winning her first-career collegiate game against No. 4 Boston College on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
Laden turned away 33 of 34 shots on the evening in the team's 2-1 overtime victory, leading Quinnipiac to its first-ever win over a top-5 nationally ranked opponent. The freshman stood strong between the pipes all game, keeping the Eagles scoreless through nearly 58 minutes of action. Laden then made a crucial save in the overtime frame, moments before the Bobcats skated down the ice to score the game-winning goal.
Overall, the freshman has seen action in three games this season, making two starts, and has compiled a .920 save percentage to go along with a 2.97 goals against average.
Laden and the Bobcats return to ECAC Hockey action when they travel to face Brown on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m., followed by an afternoon contest against Yale on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m.
