HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey assistant captain Kelley Davies (Chesapeake, Virg.) has been signed by the Neuberg Highlanders of Austria’s EWHL Division II. Davies recently completed a four-year career at Quinnipiac in which she earned Seventh Player honors as a freshman and the Coaches Award as a senior. For Quinnipiac stand-outs Elyse Cole and Janine Duffy previously played for Neuberg.
"When I was a child growing up and playing hockey, I always had a dream of being in the Olympics or in the NHL. Those dreams seem a little farfetched now,” Davies said. “Unfortunately, I grew up a lot faster than the women’s hockey world has grown. With not many professional women’s ice hockey leagues in America, it seemed that going to play hockey overseas in Europe was the next best thing. I am glad that Elyse [Cole] and [Janine] Duffy could hook me up with this opportunity, as they played for the Neuberg Highlanders last season.”
In 2010-11, Davies contributed three goals and six assists on the season, finishing her career with 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points. She was a leader off the ice as a main contributor and organizer of the team's many community service projects.
“I look forward to continue playing hockey after college because I know a lot of former collegiate hockey players don’t get this kind of opportunity. So many people have told me to keep playing hockey for as long as I can while I’m still young. Once you get older, these opportunities don’t come around that often, and if these opportunities were to come around, you may not be able to accept them later in life. I am really excited about traveling to Austria and seeing how hockey is in another country. I am also excited about exploring Europe and engaging in different cultures. I’ve never left the United States, so I am filled with both nervousness and excitement at the same time."
