On The Road With Quinnipiac Women's Ice Hockey, Part 1: Three Games
HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac captain Jordan Elkins, a junior from Wasilla, Alaska, will be blogging for the Official Website of Quinnipiac Athletics, www.QuinnipiacBobcats.com, as the women's ice hockey team prepares for their ECAC Hockey Championship Quarterfinals match-up at Princeton on Feb. 25-27.
Getting ready for the weekend.
Each day of practice we are getting ready for the weekend.
The question is not only how can I get better, but how can I prepare myself to be at my best come Friday and Saturday night? This week, though not too different from all the rest, holds a bit more weight at the end. This week is the Quarterfinals of the ECAC Hockey Championships. It won't do any good to look back and wonder what we could have done; our eyes now are looking forward. We acknowledge that we have made mistakes but as we take accountability for those mistakes, we do it with the belief that we have the power to play as though they never have been made.
This week a new season begins. As of now, eight teams have three games left in that season. All is equal - practice time, class time...we all face similar obstacles throughout our preparation. But the amount of hard work that one team is willing to do to extend their season is the difference that breeds competition. Who will be willing to give more than the next?
So for us, this week we are all focused on each shift we have ahead, and every small task, that will not only make us better but will better the team as a group. As Friday quickly approaches, we practice with the excitement of the playoffs in mind, knowing, and believing that if all 26 of us skate as hard as we can and focus on the positive difference we are all capable of making, we have what it takes to make our season last longer than three more games.
