HAMDEN, Conn. - For the second time in program history, the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team (15-7-1, 8-6-0 ECAC Hockey) has cracked the top-10 in this week's January 17, 2011 USCHO.com Division I Women's Ice Hockey Poll. The No.10 Bobcats have now received votes in the USCHO.com poll for six consecutive weeks, dating back to November 29, 2010, Overall, Quinnipiac has received votes in 12 of the 15 weekly polls during the 2010-11 season.
The poll credits Quinnipiac with 13 points, placing the team just two points behind No. 9-ranked Providence. Last season, Quinnipiac received its only other previous weekly ranking in the USCHO.com Division I Women's Ice Hockey Poll, when it was tabbed as the No. 10 team in the nation on March 1, 2010.
Quinnipiac has also received votes in this week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll for the fourth consecutive week, earning 10 points in the most recent poll on January 11, 2011. Overall, the Bobcats have received votes in eight of the 14 weekly USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Polls thus far during the 2010-11 campaign.
The Bobcats are ranked No. 10 in Women's Division I PairWise Rankings poll. The PairWise Rankings uses the same formula as the NCAA Selection Committee when choosing teams for the NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey Tournament. With an NCAA Tournament consisting of eight teams, this makes the PairWise poll an accurate predictor of which eight will be chosen.
In the KRACH Division I and II Women's poll, Quinnipiac has a No.12-ranking.
The No.10 Bobcats travel to Detroit, Mich. for a two-game set this weekend, Friday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 22 at 2 p.m., to face non-conference opponent Wayne State.
