HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac women's ice hockey freshman forward Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) took home both ECAC Hockey/MLX Skates Rookie and Player of the Week honors, while sophomore goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) was awarded Goaltender of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday, Dec. 7.
Babstock collected two goals and an assist over the weekend to earn her second-consecutive Rookie of the Week honors. On Friday, Dec. 3 in a 4-0 victory over Brown, she assisted on the game's first goal and tallied Quinnipiac's second goal of the contest. With the goal, she surpassed the program-record 15 goal season set by Hayley McMeekin in 2006-07. On Saturday in a 3-1 win over Yale, Babstock scored the game-winning goal in the second period to register her nation-leading sixth game-winning goal of the season.
The freshman leads NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey with 36 points and is tied for second with 19 assists. Her 17 goals ranks first among freshman skaters and is tied for second overall in the nation. This is Babstock's first-ever Player of the Week honors, while the Rookie of the Week selection is her fourth overall.
Vigilanti turned away 39 total shots over the weekend against Brown and Yale. On Friday against Brown, she stopped 17 shots to earn her nation-leading fifth shutout of the season. The sophomore made 22 saves the following night against Yale to improve her record to 12-6-1 on the year. Vigilanti's 450 saves are the most among ECAC Hockey goaltenders, while her 1.73 goals against average and .932 save percentage each rank third in the league. The selection was Vigilanti's third of the season and seventh-career Goaltender of the Week honors.
