ITHACA, N.Y. - The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team was defeated, 4-0, by No. 2 Cornell on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink. Quinnipiac's record now stands at 4-5-0 in ECAC Hockey play and 9-6-1 overall, while Cornell improves its ECAC Hockey record to 6-0-0 and its overall record to 8-1-0.

Cornell came out firing in the first period, scoring four goals in the frame. The Big Red's first goal was scored at the 4:32 mark, as senior forward Amber Overguard netted her second goal of the season. Overguard knocked home a cross-crease pass from sophomore defender Laura Fortino, who earned her sixth assist of the year on the play.

The Big Red wasted no time tallying their second goal, as junior forward Chelsea Karpenko netted her sixth goal of the year just over a minute later at 5:41 into the first. Senior forward Hayley Hughes was credited with her fifth assist of the year on the tally.

Cornell continued to pepper the net, scoring with 2:08 remaining in the first period to extend the lead to 3-0. Freshman forward Jessica Campbell notched her seventh goal of the season, while fellow forward Rebecca Johnston recorded her team-leading seventh assist on the score.

Senior forward Hayley Hughes scored Cornell's fourth goal on its second power play opportunity of the afternoon to bring the score to 4-0 with 1:04 remaining in the frame. On the score, junior forward Catherine White and sophomore defender Lauriane Rougeau each picked up her sixth assist of the year.

Quinnipiac refused to allow another goal in the contest, as sophomore netminder Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) recorded a season-high 16 saves in the second period. Overall, Vigilanti turned away 33 shots in the contest, while her counterpart junior goaltender Amanda Mazzotta made 18 saves of her own.

The Bobcats and the Big Red played an even third period, as each team recorded five shots and eight shots, respectively. Freshmen forwards Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden) and Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) led Quinnipiac on the afternoon with three shots apiece.

Each squad recorded two penalties on the afternoon.

Quinnipiac returns to action on Friday, Nov. 26 at 4 p.m. when it kicks off the Nutmeg Classic Tournament against Sacred Heart at the TD Banks Sports Center. The Bobcats will then play on Saturday at either 4 p.m. or 7 p.m. against either Yale or UConn, depending on Friday's outcome.
