Women's Ice Hockey Defeated, 2-0, By Rensselaer
TROY, N.Y. - The Quinnipiac University women's
ice hockey team was defeated, 2-0, by ECAC Hockey opponent
Rensselaer on Saturday afternoon at Houston Field House. The loss
drops Quinnipiac's overall record to 7-4-1 and its ECAC record to
2-3, while Rensselaer improves its overall record to 3-6-2 and is
now 2-2 in ECAC action.
The two teams played a scoreless first period, as Quinnipiac sophomore goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) and Rensselaer senior netminder Sonja van der Bliek made 9 and 7 saves, respectively. In the contest, Vigilanti made 24 saves overall, while van der Bliek turned away 25 shots.
Sophomore forward Clare Padmore netted the game's first goal at the 16:15 mark of the second period. She was assisted by senior forward Sydney O'Keefe and junior forward Kristen Jakubowski on the score.
The Engineers scored their second goal on an empty net at the 19:38 mark of the third period, as junior forward Alisa Harrison scored her second goal of the season on an assist from freshman forward Jordan Smelker.
Quinnipiac did well to stay out of the penalty box, as it played its first penalty-free contest of the season. The Bobcats were unable to capitalize on Rensselaer's two first period and one second period penalties.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Harvard at the TD Bank Sports Center. It will then host Dartmouth the following afternoon on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 4 p.m.
