HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey junior forward Kate Wheeler (Oakville, Ontario) was named ECAC Hockey/MLX Skates Player of the Week, as announced by ECAC Hockey on Tuesday, Oct. 26.
Wheeler led Quinnipiac with two goals scored in a 3-3 tie against #7 Boston College on Friday, Oct. 22. On her second goal, with Quinnipiac down 3-2, Wheeler's redirection in front of the net tied the game with just 2:36 remaining in the third period.
The junior forward is now tied for second on
the team with five goals and is fifth on the team with seven
points. She has recorded a point in five of the team's seven games
this season. With the two goals, Wheeler surpasses her previous
career high of four goals scored in a season.
This was the second Player of the Week selection for Wheeler this season, as she was previously selected on Oct. 5.
Quinnipiac returns to action this weekend when it hosts its first two ECAC Hockey games of the season against Cornell on Friday, Oct. 29 and Colgate on Saturday, Oct. 30. Friday's game is set to start at 7 p.m. while the puck drops at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
