HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey team skated to a 3-1 victory over the Ontario Hockey Academy in an exhibition contest on Friday night.
Freshman forward Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) led the way for the Bobcats, scoring two goals on the evening.
Babstock scored the first goal of the game at the 1:20 mark of the first period. On the play, she was assisted by freshman forward Amanda Colin (Burnsville, Minnesota) and freshman forward Elena Orlando (Chico, California).
Quinnipiac extended the lead when two late second period goals found the back of the net. Babstock's second goal of the contest at 16:47 was assisted by Colin and freshman forward Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden). Twelve seconds later, freshman forward Lindsay Burman (Stanchfiled, Minnesota) collected Quinnipiac's third and final goal of the game.
Sophomore goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) turned away nine shots on the night while her counterpart Alexan Rodrigue made 29 saves of her own.
Ontario scored their only goal midway through the third period, as Genevieve Bannon beat junior goaltender Amanda Nagel (Greenwood, Minnesota).
Quinnipiac opens the season when it travels to Dwyer Arena in Lewiston, N.Y. for a two-game set against Niagara on Oct. 1 and Oct. 2. The Bobcats return home the following weekend when they host Northeastern on Saturday Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. and Scared Heart on Sunday Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Connecticut.
