Victoria Vigilanti Named ECAC Goaltender Of The Week

HAMDEN, Conn. - For the third consecutive week, freshman Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) has received a weekly award from ECAC Hockey. This week, Vigilanti earns ECAC Goaltender of the Week honors after finishing the season with two wins against Yale and Brown this past weekend. This is the fourth time Vigilanti has earned this award this season, and it's her seventh weekly award from the conference.

The rookie netminder opened the final regular-season series with her fifth shutout of the year, as the Bobcats defeated Yale, 1-0, on Feb. 19. Vigilanti turned aside 17 shots in the victory. In the following game against Brown, the freshman saw more shots on net by the opponent, but also had an offensive cushion as the Bobcats scored eight goals on the day. She allowed just one goal in 31 shots by the Bears, and finished the season with 17 overall wins and 11 conference victories.

Vigilanti finishes the regular season ranked first in the ECAC in save percentage (.948) and in goals against average (1.31). On a national level, the freshman goaltender finishes second amongst all Division I goaltenders in goals against average, and finishes fourth in save percentage. Vigilanti's performance in net this season helped secure home-ice in the first round of the 2010 ECAC Hockey playoffs starting this weekend at the TD Bank Sports Center. The Bobcats finished the season in fourth place in ECAC Hockey with 29 points. They will host the fifth-place team, Rensselaer, in a best-of-three game series this weekend at the TD Bank Sports Center.

Quinnipiac returns to action this weekend as they host RPI in the first round of the 2010 ECAC Tournament. The first match-up will be on Friday, Feb. 26, at 4 p.m.
