Women's Ice Hockey Receives Votes In National Polls For Sixth Consecutive Week

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey team has received votes in the USCHO.com weekly Division I Women's Poll for the sixth consecutive week. The Bobcats earned 18 votes in the poll, which more than triples the amount of votes they received in last week's poll. Quinnipiac earns the continued recognition after they defeated Yale and Brown over the weekend, securing home ice for the 2010 ECAC Playoffs.

The Bobcats started their final regular-season series with a close 1-0 victory against Yale at the TD Bank Sports Center on Feb. 19. Senior forward Kallie Flor (Farmington, Minn.) broke the scoreless tie with eight minutes remaining in the third period to earn the win, while freshman goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) turned aside 17 shots in her 5th shutout of the season. On Saturday, Quinnipiac's offense exploded as they defeated Brown 8-1. Forwards Flor and Heather Hughes (Stouffville, Ontario) scored two goals apiece for the Bobcats, while four sophomores tallied the remaining four goals of the day.

The two wins secured Quinnipiac its first ECAC-tournament postseason berth in program history, as the team will host Rensselaer in the first round of the playoffs this weekend at the TD Bank Sports Center. The Bobcats finished the regular season in fourth place with 29 points in the ECAC. It is the first time in program history that the team has hosted a playoff game.

Quinnipiac will return to action this weekend when they begin play in the ECAC Tournament, hosting a best-of-three games series against Rensselaer. The Bobcats and the Engineers will kick off with the first playoff game on Friday, Feb. 26 at 4 p.m.
