Women's Ice Hockey Receives Votes In USCHO.com Poll For Fifth Straight Week

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey team has received votes in the USCHO.com Division I Women's Poll for the fifth consecutive week after recording a win against St. Lawrence on Feb. 12, and tying the No. 4-ranked Clarkson on Feb. 13. The Bobcats received five votes in the weekly poll, which is the highest number of votes they have received this season.

Quinnipiac kicked off the home series with their first-ever program win against St. Lawrence on Friday night. Two defensemen, Bethany Dymarczyk (Hamden, Conn.) and Felica Vieweg (Port Orange, Fla.) scored for the Bobcats to secure the victory. In the following game against the nationally-ranked Golden Knights, Quinnipiac battled to a 1-1 tie with freshman goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) stopping a season-high of 37 shots. Freshman forward Brittany Lyons (Canton, Mass.) scored the goal for the Bobcats in that match-up.

The 1-0-1 weekend earned Quinnipiac enough points to secure a position in the ECAC Hockey playoffs for the first time in program history. The Bobcats are currently in fifth place with 25 points in conference play. They are just one point behind the two teams tied in third place (RPI and Harvard) and one point ahead of Princeton in sixth place. The top eight teams advance to postseason play, with the top four teams hosting.

Quinnipiac's playoff fate will be decided this weekend in their final regular season series of the 2009-10 season. The Bobcats will host Yale and Brown this weekend at the TD Bank Sports Center, taking on the Bulldogs on Friday at 7 p.m., and the Bears on Saturday at 4 p.m.
