February 6, 2010 ITHACA, N.Y. - Freshman goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) turned aside a season-high of 37 shots, including 19 stops in the third period as the Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey team tied Cornell, 0-0, Friday evening. The Bobcats' record stands at 14-8-7 overall this season with a 7-4-6 record in ECAC Hockey play earning one point in the conference standings with the draw. The Big Red hold at 10-8-6 overall with a 9-2-6 mark in conference play.

Vigilanti was on the ball early, stopping a one-on-one attack from Catherine White just 30 seconds into the game. White skated in on Vigilanti and fired a shot high that the rookie net minder deflected off her chest into her glove for the save. Vigilanti was tested nine times in the fast-paced first period, while the Bobcats took five shots on net.

The second period was a goaltender's battle, as each team saw scoring chances in front of the net, but was denied by Vigilanti and Big Red goaltender, Amanda Mazzotta. Quinnipiac forward Brittany Lyons (Canton, Mass.) saw the Bobcats' best scoring chances of the period, including a one-on-one opportunity that Mazzotta snagged out of the air. The Big Red took nine shots on Vigilanti in the second and clanged the puck off the crossbar out of play late in the period to enforce the scoreless draw.

Vigilanti's fierce play continued through the third stanza, stopping 18 shots and diving out several times during a Bobcats' penalty kill midway through the period to keep Cornell off the board. She went on to deflect one more shot in the overtime period, recording a total of 37 saves in her fourth shutout of the season. Mazzotta made 14 saves in her seventh shutout of the year.

Quinnipiac returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Hamilton, N.Y. to take on Colgate. That game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
