HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey senior Janine Duffy (Toronto, Ontario) was named to the ECAC Hockey All-Star Team that will take on the Women's U.S. National Team in an exhibition game at the TD Bank Sports Center on Jan. 3, 2010. The exhibition will be the featured match-up of the day and is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Duffy is the sole representative from Quinnipiac on the All-Star squad.
"Earning the opportunity to be a part of a team that is going to face some of the best players in the world will be one of the many highlights I have had at Quinnipiac," said Duffy. "It will be tremendous experience to play alongside some of the best players in our league. The fact that it is going to take place at our home arena and in front of our fans is something that will make this experience even more unforgettable. I am honored to represent a program that has made great strides these past couple years and couldn't ask for a better school and hockey program to be a part of."
Duffy has put up some impressive stats so far this season. The forward has tallied seven goals and seven assists through 18 games played in the first half of the year. Duffy set a program-high in points and assists in a game when she dished out four assists in the Bobcats 11-1 victory against Sacred Heart in the Nutmeg Classic on Nov. 28. Over her four years with Quinnipiac, the senior has put up 24 goals and 28 assists in 117 games played.
Two other match-ups will book-end the day's feature event between the U.S. and the ECAC All-Stars. The Connecticut Polar Bears and Hamden High girl's ice hockey team will also play on the day. The Polar Bears take on the New Jersey Colonials at 11 a.m., while Hamden will face-off against Guilford High at 4:30 p.m.
The ECAC Hockey All-Star Team includes 21 players, representing every team in the league except the two teams that have games Jan. 3 (Brown and Dartmouth). Princeton women's ice hockey head coach Jeff Kampersal will take the lead behind the bench for the All-Stars and he will be assisted by Yale head coach Hillary Witt and Rensselaer head coach John Burke.
The exhibition game is part of the U.S. National Team's Qwest Tour, a series of 10 games designed to help Team USA prepare for the 2010 Olympics. The U.S. is 3-1 so far on the tour which kicked off on Sept. 25 in Spokane, Washington. The U.S. plays the Canadians on Dec. 12 and Dec. 30 prior to taking on the ECAC Hockey All-Stars on Jan. 3.
