Quinnipiac opened up the scoring at the 11:26 mark of the first period with sophomore Chelsea Illchuk's (Lockport, Manitoba) first goal of the 2009 season. In a crowd in front of the net, freshman Heather Hughes (Stoufville, Ontario) tapped the puck to Illchuk to her left outside the crease. Illchuk batted the puck over the head of Big Green goaltender Mariel Lacina for the 1-0 lead. The assist was Hughes' second of the season.
Dartmouth evened the score at the 17:33 mark of the first. On a quick pass from line mate Camille Dumais, Jenna Cunningham fired a shot from the right hash marks that rose over the reach of Vigilanti for the goal. Sasha Nanji was also credited with an assist.
The Bobcats recaptured the lead with nine minutes to play in the third period on Dymarczyk's fourth goal of the season. Hughes picked up her second assist of the game when she found Dymarczyk at the right-center point of the blue line. The defender fired the puck that slipped by Lacina into the lower right corner for the 2-1 lead. Freshman Breehan Polci (London, Ontario) also picked up an assist on the play.
Vigilanti anchored Quinnipiac's defense in the third period to hold off the offensive-minded Big Green. The rookie goaltender made 18 saves in the final twenty minutes, including a diving save to knock the puck off the right post and out of play with two minutes remaining. Vigilanti stopped a total of 32 shots in her fifth win of the season, while Lacina made 15 saves in the loss.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow afternoon when they head back to Harvard to make up the game that was postponed from Friday night. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge, Mass.
