Women's Ice Hockey Ties Boston College, 1-1

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman forward Brittany Lyons (Canton, Mass.) scored the lone Bobcat goal as the Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey team tied with Boston College, 1-1, Friday night. Freshman goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) recorded 29 saves as the Bobcats' record stands at 1-1-1 on the season. The Eagles' record holds at 1-2-3 on the year.

"We came out playing hard and I think that caught their team off guard," said Head Coach Rick Seeley. "We continued the strong play and saw some great opportunities to increase the score. We fell into some penalty trouble in the third and that's where they scored, but I think we played well overall."

Lyons opened up the scoring at the 6:52 mark to earn the 1-0 lead. During a power play opportunity, Felica Vieweg (Port Orange, Fla.) ripped a shot from the center of the blue line that Lyons tipped past Boston College goaltender Corinne Boyles for her second goal of the season. The assist was Vieweg's first collegiate point.

Boston College responded at the 14:17 mark of the third in a 5-on-3 power play advantage. Blake Bolden took a hard shot from the point that rebounded off to Allie Thurston who tapped it into the upper corner for the tying goal. Danielle Welch also assisted on the tally.

Vigilanti stopped 29 shots by the Eagles, while her counterpart Corinne Boyles recorded 21 saves in the game.

The Bobcats return to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Northeastern at Matthews Arena. The game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
