Quinnipiac freshamn Nicole Scola (Westerly, R.I.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for September.
Scola stormed out of the gate to start her Quinnipiac career, shooting five of the lowest rounds in program history through the first three tournaments of the season. At the Towson Invitational, Scola carded a 79 on the first day before finishing the second day with a 75 for a two-day total of 154, which at the time was the second-lowest 36-hole total in program history.
She followed with a 77 on the first day of the Dartmouth Invitational before a 70 on the second day gave her the first sub-par round in program history, and consequently the lowest score in Quinnipiac history. In addition, her 147 broke the Quinnipiac record for a 36-hole tournament. In her last time out, she opened the Yale Invitational with a 76 on the first day and a 73 on the second – both top-10 18-hole scores – before wrapping up the tournament with her only 80-plus score of the season. Her 80 on the third round gave her a 229 for the three-day, 54-hole event – breaking the Quinnipiac record by 10 strokes.
Quinnipiac returns to action when it competes in the St. John's Invitational at Eisenhower Park White Course in East Meadow, N.Y. on Oct. 7-8. They will then travel to Sommerset, N.J. to compete in the Rutgers Invitationl on Oct. 14-15 before hosting the second annual Quinnipiac Classic on Oct. 21-22 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
