BARRINGTON, R.I. – On a day that saw the Quinnipiac women's golf team shed 27 strokes from its first day at the Brown University Invitational at Rhode Island Country Club, junior Kayla Ketcheson (St. Andrews, Manitoba) broke the program's single-round record with a 79 to propel herself into a tie for 30th place.
"We had a great round of golf today," head coach John O'Connor said. "We played amazing, and improved by 27 strokes. The weather was more severe than it was yesterday, which didn't make an already difficult course any easier."
Ketcheson held the Bobcats' previous all-time best mark with an 80 at the Rutger's Invitational on Oct. 12, 2011. Her two-day total of 167 also ties the Quinnipiac tournament record, which she also set at the ECAC Championships on Oct. 3-4, 2011. All four of Quinnipiac's golfers improved on their scores from the first day of the event as the Bobcats showed the most improvement from the first day of competition.
Amanda Nagel (Greenwood, Minn.) finished the second day with a 90, to combine with her 91 from the first round for a 181 for 46th place. Jennifer Forlenza (Wayne, N.J.) shot 10-strokes better than her first day total, carding a 91 to follow her 101 in the opening round. Senior Nicole Ferretti (Rumson, N.J.) shot a 93 on the second day, clipping seven strokes from her first day total.
