LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Quinnipiac women's golf freshman Hannah Russell (Monson, Mass.) finished 29th out of 47 golfers, while Amanda Nagel (Greenwood, Minn.) had her best round of her career, at the Monmouth Hawk Invitational at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood, N.J. The Bobcats finished the tournament seventh out of nine teams at the event.

"Golf is a game that constantly evolves with each player and every one of these golfers' games are evolving," head coach John O'Connor said. "Sometimes you have to take a step backward to be able to take your next steps forward. Amanda's game is becoming solid and she's playing more consistent. She's on the verge of some very good scores."

Russell shot a 176 (+32) over the two-day tournament, carding an 89 on Saturday before following with an 87 during Sunday's final round. Senior Amanda Nagel (Greenwood, Minn.) matched Russell's second-round play with a career-best 87 of her own, improving by six strokes from Saturday's 93, to finish with an 180 (+36) for 32nd place.

Nicole Ferretti (Red Bank, N.J.) finished in 34th place with a 183 (+39) for the tournament. Ferretti shot an 89 on Saturday and 94 on Sunday. Quinnipiac's Day 1 leader Jennifer Forlenza (Wayne, N.J.) tied for 35th place with a two-day 185 (+41). She followed up her career-best 87 with a 98 on Sunday.

"Our shot selections don't always make for low scores, but they help us develop as golfers," O'Connor explained. "We'll continue to improve as the warm weather approaches and we can spend more time on the putting greens."

LIU Brooklyn won the event with a combined 628 (317-311), followed by Hofstra's 633 (321-312), Fairleigh Dickinson's 643 (322-321) and host Monmouth with a 652 (333-319). Hartford held onto the fifth spot at 674 (353-321), followed by Wagner's 706 (358-348) ahead of Quinnipiac's combined 719 (353-366). St. Francis (N.Y.) (745; 373-372) and Holy Cross (764; 394-370) filled out the field.

Quinnipiac returns to action on April 8-9 when it travels to Providence, R.I. to compete in the Brown Invitational at Rhode Island Country Club.
