"We are very pleased to be adding more opportunities for student athletes to compete in Division I intercollegiate athletics," Director of Athletics and Recreation Jack McDonald said.

Both sports are recognized as varsity sports by the NCAA, with golf sponsoring a championship and rugby granted emerging sport status. The University will continue its commitment to Stunts and Tumbling (formerly Competitive Cheer) as a varsity sport. The University will also continue its women's volleyball program for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 academic years. A search for a head coach for both golf and rugby is currently underway.
