Paula Strautmane Leads Latvia U18 National Team to Runner-Up Finish at 2015 FIBA Women’s Division B Championship
Paula Strautmane (Mucenieki, Latvia) and the Latvia U-18 National Team rolled to a runner-up finish at the 2015 FIBA Women’s Division B Championship held in Romania. Strautmane helped guide Latvia to an undefeated run through the first seven games of the tournament before her team fell to the Slovak Republic, 49-45, in the Championship game. Despite the loss in the title game, Latvia’s run into the finals earns a promotion into the Division A group (top tier) for the 2016 FIBA U18 Championships.

QU Women's Basketball's Gillian Abshire Signs Professional Contract with Lemvig Basketball in Denmark
Former Quinnipiac women’s basketball standout Gillian Abshire (Washington, D.C.) will begin her professional career overseas in Denmark, as the all-time assist leader at Quinnipiac has signed a one-year contract with the Lemvig Basketball Club.The Washington, D.C. native has inked a deal with Lemvig, who is a member of the Danish Women’s Professional League.

Frank "Porky" Vieira '57 and Ashlee Kelly '04 Selected to 2015-16 MAAC Basketball Hall of Fame
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has announced the latest class to be inducted in the MAAC Honor Roll, in which honorees will be enshrined in “The MAAC Experience” exhibit at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Former Quinnipiac basketball standouts Frank “Porky” Vieira ’57 and Ashlee Kelly ’04 have been selected and will be recognized in Springfield, Massachusetts on October 17, 2015.

Linda Wooster to be Inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame
Former Quinnipiac Associate Director Athletics & Recreation Linda Wooster will be inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame at a major ceremony at the DCU Center in Worcester on August 8th. Wooster will join other honorees representing a variety of categories ranging from high school players to senior adults who still play the game at age 65 and over. The New England Basketball Hall of Fame dinner has become one of the largest sports dinners in America with approximately 1900 people scheduled to attend the ceremony on August 8th.

Quinnipiac women’s basketball head coach Tricia Fabbri has announced the promotion of Mountain MacGillivray to associate head coach. MacGillivray, a 1996 graduate of Temple University, will begin his seventh season on Fabbri’s coaching staff in 2015-16.

Paula Strautmane (Mucenieki, Latvia) and the Latvian U-20 National Team keep rolling at the 2015 FIBA U-20 European Championships as Latvia defeated Germany, 62-55, in Second Round action on Tuesday afternoon. The victory gives Latvia six points in the Group E standings and sets up a crucial Wednesday matchup against Poland as the winner will advance to the Quarterfinals while the loser will fall into the Classification Games for 9th through 16th place.

Paula Strautmane Leading Latvia Into Second Round of 2015 U-20 European Championships
Paula Strautmane (Mucenieki, Latvia), who will join the Quinnipiac women’s basketball program next season, has led her native Latvian National Under-20 Team to a 49-46 victory over Russia in the Second Round of the 2015 U-20 European Championships. Latvia has two Second Round games remaining over the next two days against Germany and Poland before the start of the Quarterfinal round. Quinnipiac University women’s basketball head coach Tricia Fabbri and the rest of her staff have announced the signing of Paula Strautmane (Mucenieki, Latvia) to a national letter of intent with the Bobcats. Strautmane joins a list of three more Class of 2019 additions – Brittany Martin (Sicklerville, New Jersey), Aryn McClure (Queens, New York) and Edel Thornton (County Cork, Ireland) – to make up the Bobcats’ four-member freshmen class for the 2015-16 season.

Quinnipiac women’s basketball senior point guard Gillian Abshire (Washington, D.C.) was announced as the NCAA Div. I statistical champion for assist-to-turnover ratio, as announced by the NCAA Media Coordination and Statistics staff on Friday, May 15, 2015. Abshire’s 4.15 assist-turnover ratio not only was the best of any NCAA student-athlete in the 2014-15 season, but it also was the best single-season assist-to-turnover ratio recorded since the NCAA began using stat in 2007-08.

Quinnipiac University women’s basketball junior Maria Napolitano (Cincinnati, Ohio) was recently presented the Edwin L. Steck Award by the Quinnipiac Student Government Association. In addition, sophomore Morgan Manz (Southbury, Connecticut) and freshman Sarah Shewan (Russell, Ontario) were honored with Outstanding Sophomore and Freshman Awards, respectively, at the University-wide awards ceremony held on Saturday, April 25 on the Mount Carmel Campus.

Quinnipiac is trying to become the MAAC’s first-ever school to go 20-0 through conference play in the second season of the current 20-game format. An undefeated MAAC record has only been done five other times in conference history with Marist (18-0 in ’07-08, ’10-11, ’12-13) and Saint Peter’s (14-0 in ’96-97; 5-0 in ’81-82) being the only teams to have gone undefeated in MAAC league play.

The No. 10 spot means Quinnipiac fell one spot from the No. 9 ranking one week ago but the pollsters still gave the Bobcats respect as QU totaled a season-high 498 points in this week's installment.

Showing no ill effects of the lengthy drive and shivering temperatures in Buffalo, the Quinnipiac women’s basketball team surged forward and defeated Canisius, 86-66, from the Koessler Athletic Center on Friday evening. Several of the Bobcat substitutes keyed the offensive attack in the first half while the five starters took over in the second stanza to seal the convincing win. The Bobcats’ victory improves Quinnipiac’s overall record to 13-3 while remaining undefeated in the MAAC (5-0). Canisius drops to 5-9 overall and 3-2 in the conference in the defeat.

Quinnipiac head coach Tricia Fabbri will go for her 300th career victory in a Sunday matchup against two in-state rivals both looking to remain unbeaten in MAAC play. The Bobcats (5-2, 1-0 MAAC) face a true test on Sunday afternoon as they walk into Alumni Hall looking to score a big win over the Fairfield Stags (2-5, 1-0 MAAC) to remain undefeated in conference play. Quinnipiac’s in-state rival gave the Bobcats all sorts of fits last year as Fairfield handed the Bobcats a 72-71 loss from Alumni Hall and also later in the season from TD Bank Sports Center in a game that ended with the Stags ahead, 61-52.
