Women's Basketball Moves Up To No. 20 In Most Recent CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball team moved up to 20th in the most recent CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll, announced on Tuesday, December 17th, 2013 by coaches on the committee.  The Bobcats are 5-5 overall but have faced six teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season. On Sunday, the Bobcats defeated previously undefeated and No. 4 Albany, 74-53.

Quinnipiac features four players who are averaging double figures in Jasmine Martin (Sicklerville,NJ), Brittany McQuain (Independence,Mo), Gillian Abshire (Washington,DC), and Samantha Guastella (Red Bank,NJ).

Martin is sixth in the MAAC in scoring averaging 15.2 points per game. With 75 more points she will become the 20th player in school history to score 1000 career points. McQuain, already a member of the 1000 point club, is third in the conference in rebounding with 9.1 rebounds per game. McQuain needs 47 rebounds to move into fourth place in school history. Abshire is currently 10th in the country in assists per game after a year in which she had the best assist to turnover ratio in the country.

The College Insider Mid-Major poll featured Gonzaga in the top slot, taking 15 first place votes. San Diego claimed second also taking 15 first place votes, Bowling Green garnered third, while BYU and Chattanooga rounded out the top five.

The Bobcats return to action for their final non-conference game of the regular season on Wednesday, Dec. 18th as the Bobcats will take on the Crusaders of Holy Cross.  Tip-off will be at 11:30 a.m. at the Hart Center in Worcester,Mass.
