College Sports Madness Honors Three Bobcats in MAAC Poll; Tricia Fabbri Named Preseason Coach of the Year

HAMDEN, Conn. – Two members of the Quinnipiac University women's basketball team – senior Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.) and junior Jasmine Martin (Sicklerville, N.J.) – along with Head Coach Tricia Fabbri, have been named to the College Sports Madness MAAC Preseason All-Conference Team, announced on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 by the association's committee. McQuain was a first team selection, Martin was a second team selection, while Fabbri was tabbed MAAC Preseason Coach of the Year.
College Sports Madness selects the projected top women's basketball players from every conference across the nation. These players are expected to make significant contributions to their teams during this coming season and deserve significant recognition.
McQuain - returns for her senior season after a very dominating season down low for the Bobcats. McQuain was named 2013 NEC Tournament MVP and All-NEC Second Team last season. She led the Bobcats with 8.3 rebounds per game and was third on the Bobcats with 11.2 points per game last season. McQuain also totaled the second most minutes last season playing 26.8 minutes per game. Through her first three seasons McQuain has scored 982 career points putting her 18 points away from 1,000 for her career.
Martin was Quinnipiac's second-leading scorer, averaging 12.9 points a game last season to go alongside a team leading 51 three pointers. Martin also was sound defensively with 1.9 steals per game which was good for third on the team. Martin was named a 2012-13 All NEC Third Teamer. Martin remains 227 points away from 1,000 career points, but if she remains at her normal pace she will be able to reach the 1,000 point milestone sometime this season. Martin's season was highlighted on two occasions – at Sacred Heart (Feb. 23) and vs. Mount St. Mary's (Mar. 13)- where she chipped in a season- best 22 points in each game.

Quinnipiac's regular-season tips off on Friday, Nov. 8 with opening round of the Preseason WNIT. Quinnipiac will take on North Carolina A&T at 5 pm with the winner taking on the winner of Louisville vs. Loyola Chicago.
